How the Left Is Telling Us We Were Wrong on Race for the Last 50 Years
It's normal to feel baffled about how race has become one of the most important things about a person
I’m an older Millennial who barely slips into the beginning of that generation. I grew up in Rhode Island which has always been one of the most left-leaning areas of the country. Even though it’s a deep blue state, everyone was raised with the ideology of Martin Luther King Jr. to judge people on the content of their character and not the color of their skin.
When I went to school race was never an issue people thought of. My education experience includes an all-male Catholic high school to the University of Florida. We were taught to be colorblind in diverse classrooms and nobody had a problem with it. Colorblindness may not have been the best way to think about race because we all see color, but the important thing is how much and the ways another person’s color matters to you. If it mattered a lot, it was a problem.
