It's Ridiculous For Paris To Be Hosting The Olympics
If climate change is keeping Paris from meeting athlete needs, the city shouldn't host the event
It’s not looking good for the Paris Olympics. There’s very little hype for the event and the organizers got themselves caught up in environmental virtue signaling about air conditioning. That’s ironic because a city so worried about the environment and “climate” can’t even clean up the Seine River which is hosting major swimming events.
Organizers didn’t think air conditioning would be necessary when it’s 80 degrees in August. They thought it was a great idea not to provide it to athletes who have trained their entire lives to be in peak condition for competition during this time. Instead, they chose to use a system of geothermic cooling pipes underneath floors that no one had faith in to keep the 15,000 athletes comfortable in the Olympic Village.
It didn’t sound like organizers thought about unintended consequences or actions teams would take to ensure athletes stayed cool. If you like ironic things about climate activism that does nothing, you will love this. The Washington Post compiled a list that had eight of the 20 largest competitors, including the USA, planned on bringing their own portable A/C units for their athletes.

What would the exact effect on immediate or long-term global temperatures be if one event in Paris didn’t use A/C? That’s an answer you never will get because it doesn’t have any effect on climate change and makes no measurable impact on anything, but people feel the need to make a big deal over things that accomplish nothing to show the correct politics.
Another shocking news story for people not familiar with Paris is about the Seine River. If you watched Under Paris on Netflix, you wouldn’t believe at how such a progressive and environmentally friendly country would allow a major river to be so polluted and full of trash. You would think the river would be pristine, but it’s the opposite.

Earlier this month the Seine had unsafe levels of E. coli less than two months before swimming competitions are scheduled. Organizers can’t confirm that the events will take place in what was supposed to be a showcase event. It may have to be a duathlon instead of a triathlon which won’t please athletes trying to sleep at night without A/C who have put in years of training for a triathlon.
If a location wants to host an event like the Olympics but is worried about the effect it has on climate change, then let another place do it. There are plenty of ways to make the event “green,” but not at the expense of athlete performance and comfort. It’s embarrassing for a country that says it cares about the environment to not clean up a polluted river for its main event. Hopefully, no sharks show up in the Seine.
