Kamala Harris Doesn’t Appear to Respect Her Role or the Military
The most important thing to her is advancing woke causes and not helping America
Kamala Harris got herself into hot water last weekend when she released a tweet about Memorial Day weekend that said, “Enjoy the long weekend.”
That wasn’t a tone-deaf or stupid tweet. Harris knows her constituency and what she was doing. Harris wasn’t tweeting to normal Americans who still love America and respect the sacrifices of our military. The Left has a history of disrespecting the military going back to the Vietnam War. They view the military as a force for evil, imperialist, colonialist, and full of “toxic masculinity.”
Harris later tweeted a message similar to what every other vice president since Memorial Day started in 1868 would by saying, “Throughout our history, our servicemen and women have risked everything to defend our freedoms and our country. As we prepare to honor them on Memorial Day, we remember their service and their sacrifice.” Too little too late for your average American.
Harris has a voice for her radical constituency and the obligatory one for the rest of America. Memorial Day weekend has a different tone than other long weekends as she likes to say. It’s a solemn day for people who understand our history and the sacrifices that were made for people who can observe it. You still have your cookouts but the tone isn’t the same as raucous (as they should be) Independence Day celebrations.
This isn’t the first time Harris made more than subtle insults at the military. She broke the precedent of saluting the honor guard when boarding Air Force Two. It’s an insult to the military when she walks by officers as if they don’t exist. Mike Pence and Joe Biden saluted troops but she thinks she’s too good for it. It’s impossible for her to be unaware of the tradition after seeing so many previous presidents and vice presidents salute. Don’t expect her to pick up a Marine’s hat if it blows away as President Trump did.
The tradition of saluting the honor guard on Air Force One began with President Reagan in 1981 when he said, “I know all the rules about not saluting in civilian clothes and so forth, and when you should or shouldn’t. So, I said to the commandant, I said, ‘Look, I know all the rules about saluting in civilian clothes and all, but if I am the commander in chief, there ought to be a regulation that would permit me to return a salute. And I heard some words of wisdom. ‘I think if you did, no one would say anything.’”
We don’t know for sure, but it’s a safe bet Harris wasn’t thinking of President Reagan or those regulations he mentioned for not saluting. It should get mentioned that, as vice president, Harris is not in the chain of military command, unlike the president, and is not required to salute, according to The Huffington Post. Even though saluting isn’t required in military regulations, it’s an appropriate gesture of respect for those who protect you and serve the country you are supposed to help lead.
It’s no surprise this intentional disrespect of the military and fallen come from a party that said President Trump didn’t respect the troops. He’s the one who rebuilt the military after the Obama administration managed its decline with dangerous budget cuts. Trump was the one who said no new unnecessary foreign wars at the start of his term and kept his promise while being a champion for veteran's causes. Harris hasn’t shown any love or respect for the military. It would be very scary for our servicemembers if she becomes Commander in Chief from how she’s behaved towards them so far.
