The Last Thing Florida Needs Is "Something New" in 2022
Nikki Fried would undo everything good Ron DeSantis has done to make the state one of the best places to live in America
Florida is turning into one of the best places to live in America and Democrats have nothing to do with it. The state has been under Republican control for over 20 years and the results speak for themselves. People love the weather but love the business climate, the freedom they have, and low taxes even more.
Governor Ron DeSantis took a sensible approach during the Wuhan Flu by protecting seniors while allowing the rest of the population to make decisions for themselves. He embodied what “my body, my choice” meant during the pandemic. Florida had a lower per capita senior COVID mortality rate than 40 other U.S. states while avoiding repressive lockdowns that California and New York imposed.
His leadership during the pandemic and the legislation he’s signed from ensuring securing elections, banning Critical Race Theory in K-12 schools, and protecting girl’s sports should get him re-elected with ease. Unfortunately, these aren’t normal times and DeSantis is an anathema to the Left and Florida Democrats. Except for 2020 where Trump and Republicans cruised to victory, major races are notorious for being close in Florida.
He embodied what “my body, my choice” meant during the pandemic.
Last week, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried announced she was running against DeSantis. She’s the only Democrat elected statewide and under normal circumstances, a lightweight like her would never come close to the governor’s mansion. Her slogan, “Something New,” couldn’t be more vacuous. Just because something is new doesn't mean it’s a good thing.
DeSantis had some choice words for his likely opponent when he was asked about her announcement:
“Nikki Fried has done nothing in office. She does nothing. All she does is emote on social media, virtue signal to small-dollar donors in California and New York. She put her face, spent millions of dollars to put her face on every gas pump across this state, purely to boost her own image at your expense as a taxpayer. She’s a lockdown lobbyist. She would have had our kids locked out of school for the entire year. She would have had this business shuttered for the whole year. They would be out of business if Fried were governor”
DeSantis probably should be glad she does nothing because that’s the best kind of Democrat.
Fried is someone DeSantis needs to take seriously. Democrats are obsessed with “firsts” and she will make a big deal of trying to become the first female governor. They wouldn’t care so much about that if the first female governor was a conservative though. She’s also Jewish so you can expect her to accuse Trump supporters and conservatives of anti-Semitism while ignoring it in her own party from the likes of The Squad.
The race is sure to get national attention because DeSantis could be an early frontrunner for a 2024 presidential campaign. Fried mentioned that in her announcement so you know Democrats will open their war chest and pour in out-of-state funds. Her campaign videos are well produced and she stares off into the distance at nothing in her photos. She knows how to speak the language of the Left and motivate the base.
Fried still has to beat former governor and former Republican Charlie Crist in the primary. That probably won’t be a problem because he’s a White male and that’s the last kind of person Democrats want to represent them even if he was the best person for the job. She’s paying no attention to Crist in her campaign attacks which probably is another smart move.
DeSantis better be right that the people moving to Florida are Republicans or are turning into them. Voters have a bad habit of bringing their political beliefs that ruined where they lived before to where they moved to. The last thing the state needs is New York and California people bringing their values to one of the best places to live and turning it into another place people will flee in a couple of decades if they help the Left take over.
